Residents looking to safely dispose of sensitive documents will have an opportunity later this month as Mangano Family Funeral Homes and Family Florist hosts a free paper shredding event.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., or until the shredding truck reaches capacity. It will take place at 1701 Deer Park Ave. and is open to the public.

Organizers said the event is designed to help residents protect themselves against identity theft while also promoting environmentally responsible disposal. Documents will be shredded on-site in a professional mobile unit, allowing participants to watch the process before materials are recycled.

“Our responsibility to the families we serve goes beyond honoring their loved ones,” said Sal Mangano, president of Mangano Family Funeral Homes. “In today’s world, safeguarding personal information is more important than ever. By hosting this free shredding event, we’re giving our community a simple, secure way to prevent identity theft and gain peace of mind.”

Participants may bring up to four bags or boxes of documents per person. The event is limited to residential materials only; items from commercial businesses will not be accepted.

Only paper documents will be accepted. Staples and paper clips are allowed, but binders, plastic sleeves, cardboard, electronics, hard drives, and other non-paper materials are prohibited.
