Mangano Family Funeral Home and Deer Park Fire Department Credit Community Generosity
(Deer Park, New York) The Mangano Family Funeral Home and the Deer Park Fire Department celebrated another successful collaborative toy drive to benefit Cohen Children’s Hospital this holiday season. Members of both the funeral home staff and the fire department gathered at the funeral home this past Sunday morning to pack out the toys.
“We are glad to be able to lighten the financial burden of the parents of seriously ill children with the donation of these toys”, said Sal Mangano, owner of Mangano Family Funeral Homes. “I thank the community for its generosity in once again making this toy drive a huge success.”
Deer Park Fire Department’s Chief Robert Macaluso echoed his sentiments. “If these donations ease a little bit of stress for these families so they can just enjoy the holiday with their child, then my heart is happy”, he said.
Also in attendance was Joseph Baggio, the young man whose family spearheaded this drive a few years back. Baggio is a cancer survivor whose family wants to give back to the Hospital that they credit with saving his life.
“I know how tough it is being a kid in the hospital.” Young Baggio said. It is the Baggio Family’s hope that these toys bring some joy to all the kids spending their holiday this year at Cohen Children’s Hospital.
Cohen Children’s Medical Center provides the very best care to meet the special needs of sick children ranging in age from premature babies to adolescents. The 206-bed hospital opened in 1983 as the NY Metro area’s only hospital exclusively for children. Today, they are the largest provider of pediatric healthcare services in New York State.
